25 Breathtaking Photos of Putra Mosque (Putrajaya, Malaysia)

The city of Putrajaya is located south of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It serves as a center of government that compliments the capital city. Within this modern city lays a gem of Islamic architecture called the Putra Mosque. The mosque was named in honor of the former and first Prime Minister of Malaysia Almarhum Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al–Haj. Construction of the mosque began in June 1997 and was completed two years later in September 1999.  Resting on the Putrajaya Lake, the mosque is located next to the Perdana Putra which houses the Malaysian Prime Minister’s office.

Inspiring the Spread of Islam in the U.K.

Author asiddiqui    Category Community Projects, Inspiration     Tags

After a survey that found that 60% of the public say they don’t know very much about Islam, Muslims in Britain have started a campaign to put a better face on Islam and spread its universal teachings. Called “Inspired by Muhammad”, the campaign focuses on counteracting the negative image of Muslims in western media by focusing on how Islamic teachings contribute to today’s society.

The campaign focuses on protecting the environment, social justice, and women’s rights, putting a face on each of these causes and then putting these faces up all over London. Images of Kristiane Backer (an eco-Muslim and former MTV presenter), Rupon Miah (a frontline worker for a homeless charity), and Sultana Tafadar (a barrister) can be seen at bus stops, tube stations (london’s version of my D.C. metro), and on the sides of taxis across London – along with bright and simple messages, such as “I believe in women’s rights. So did Muhammad.”
