Finding Muslim Filmmakers doesn’t have to be Hard

By default it seems, YouTube & Vimeo are great places to find muslim filmmakers. But there are also other places you may not have looked. Here are a few well known Muslim Filmmakers that we came across this week and how we found them (HWFT).

Hipurductions http://www.hipurductions.com

HWFT – While browsing through the Online Edition of the Muslim Link, a newspaper published in the Baltimore/Washington D.C Metro Area, a very interesting article title caught our attention: “DC Area Film Makers Join Forces On 3D Movie“. We opened up the link to the article & by the second paragraph we came across a name, HIPURductions.  Their mission, to produce “high quality entertainment that motivates audiences to become more involved in their communities and make the world a better place, one Reel at a time”. On their site you will find a Portfolio of their work, information on their live broadcasts of lecturers from the D.C. Metro area, and blog posts.

Lotapanipictures http://www.lota-pani.com

HWFT – Well one thing usually leads to the next. That’s what happened in the case of lotapanipictures. We found them as a link on the sidebar on HIPURductions site. Lotapani has comical videos where they take mainstream American music and halal-ify them with lyrics that speak to the muslim audience. They have views in excess of 100,000 on YouTube of their first feature Gandaghee – Halal Mix Tape Vol. 1 (lota-pani.com) which came out in 2007.  Their vision –  to “provide quality entertainment for a diverse audience in accordance with Islamic Standards”

Ummah Films http://www.ummahfilms.com

HWFT – YouTube, (need I say more).

Leechon http://www.leechon.com/

HWFT – Honestly, we don’t remember. We’ve known about Leechon Films for a while. To end on a more conclusive note, our best guess is that perhaps we got connect to them through one of their many social media links. You can find Leechon Films on Facebook, YouTube, & Twitter. On their site they have featured Abdullah, a new Islamic kids program that they are working on. What’s their vision?, you ask – “to give the beautiful vibrant message of Islam its due rights by calling people to it in an equally beautiful manner”.
